Want More Sales? Fix This One Thing First!

Most small business owners and solopreneurs think they have a marketing problem when, in reality, they have a messaging problem.

If your audience doesn’t instantly understand what you do and why it matters to them, they won’t buy.

I see this mistake all the time:

1. Vague positioning – “We offer innovative solutions for businesses.” (What does that even mean?)

2. Feature dumping – Listing product specs instead of benefits.

3. Talking about YOU instead of THEM – “We’re the best in the industry” vs. “Here’s how we solve YOUR problem.

THE FIX: Make your message painfully clear.

1. Clarify your value proposition – What’s the problem you solve?

2. Speak your customer’s language – Use words they would say, not industry jargon.

3. Focus on outcomes – People don’t buy products; they buy solutions to their problems.

Here’s a simple test: Show your website or social media bio to a stranger for 5 seconds. If they can’t immediately tell what you do and who you help, it’s time to rewrite it.

Your message should be so clear that a 10-year-old could explain it to someone else.
