The truth? It depends on your season and your strengths.
It’s the question I hear from new freelancers all the time:
“Should I be cold pitching, or should I just focus on content?”
Here’s my honest answer: both can work. But they serve different purposes.
🧊 Cold Outreach
This is direct, proactive, and (let’s be real) sometimes a little scary. But it can be fast. You’re reaching out to people, showing them how you can help, and hoping to start a conversation.
✅ Best when:
- You’re just starting out
- You have clarity in your niche
- You want short-term wins
But here’s the key: make it personal, not pushy. No one likes a spammy DM. Lead with value, curiosity, and care.
🧠 Content Marketing
This is the long game. Sharing ideas, insights, and experiences that attract the right clients over time. Think blog posts, LinkedIn posts, short videos, etc.
✅ Best when:
- You want to build a brand
- You have stories and expertise to share
- You’re ready to be patient
Content marketing builds trust while you sleep. But it requires consistency, not perfection.
💡 So, which should you choose?
If you’re brand new and need momentum: start with warm, thoughtful outreach.
If you’re building long-term visibility: layer in content marketing.
And if you can do both? That’s where the magic happens.
In the end, it’s not about tactics. It’s about building relationships. Whether through a cold pitch or a thoughtful blog post—real connection is still what wins.
